Phonics Books and Stories

Simple phonics books are a great way to help your child become successful at reading.

Here are quick reviews of two of the more popular phonics series on the market.

As you probably already know, there are a number of approaches to reading readiness and beginning reading.

It is important that you know the approach that your child's teacher is taking in the classroom.

With this knowledge in hand, you can easily supplement his school learning at home--using fun children's books that teach phonics!

Usborne Goose on the Loose, phonics books There are a number of good phonics programs on the market. Each approaches the subject a little differently, so you have to know your child's learning style, or, at least, how she is being taught reading skills in school.

Usborne books with phonics have developed a good reputation among home school parents. Usborne books were developed to increase interest in reading and make reading fun. The Goose on The Loose is an example of an Usborne book.

Usborne Shark in the Park, phonics books

The Usborne phonics books don't feel any different from other fun Farmyard Tales books, but they are phonics based and were created with the help of a language expert. Each book includes (for parents) a complete phonetic list of the words used in the story.

Phonics Readers from Usborne are the books our local preschool teacher wants all of her students to own!

Phonics Stories - Bob's Books

Bob's Books are great for the beginning reader. Each set has 8-12 books and the books use a natural progression of reading readiness and reading skills. Most parents who have used them, LOVE them!

When using these books, or any other phonics program, keep in mind that you need to work WITH your child and keep him progressing at his own rate.

There is no product known to man that will teach a young child to read--all by himself!
