Reading Levels For Childrens Books
Reading Skills and Age Help Choose Books
Buying childrens books, based on reading levels, can be a bit tricky. Reading skills are learned, and they are not based entirely on a child’s age. In fact, there are books that are designated for a certain age—that vary widely in their level of difficulty. But it’s important to match reading skills, age level and social development and your child’s interest with each new children’s book that you purchase. Kids reading at the right level, think books are fun!

Books are fun for kids who can read them.
Book LevelsWhen selecting or buying childrens books, you need to keep a number of things in mind. Here are some of the most important:- Interest in the subject – Is the subject fun for your child?
- Reading skills – Can your child read (or reach a little to read) the book?
- Vocabulary – A book is meaningless if your child has no understanding of its words and meaning.
- Social level – Even if your child reads well above his grade level, he may identify with children his own age. For example, a 12 year old boy in college is not ready for college frat parties and dating college girls.
- Grade level – This is a general guideline and can be quite useful.
